What is the Parisian Peel®?
The Parisian Peel® is a form of microdermabrasion previously available only in the finest European spas. Inorganic crystals as small as powdered sugar are used to effect a superficial skin polishing, similar to an extremely thorough exfoliation. Microcrystals are gently applied to the top layers of your skin through a delicate handpiece, polishing away the upper layer of dead, flaking cells. With subsequent passes, clogged pores are opened while fine lines and creases are buffed, resulting in softer, smoother, fresher-looking skin.
Unlike laser or some types of chemical treatments, you can resume your regular lifestyle with no time off for healing. The most dramatic improvements are seen with 6 to 8 treatments done about 1 or 2 weeks apart. Most importantly, the Parisian Peel® is safe. FDA-approved, the Parisian Peel® is a proven, non-surgical way to enhance your skin, regardless of your skin type or color. Even those sensitive areas like the neck and décolleté area may be treated by this method.
How soon are results apparent?
Immediately after your first treatment, your skin will feel soft, fresh and smooth. Over the course of 6 to 12 treatments, the gentle buffing will unclog pores, even pigmentation, and smooth fine lines and creases. Problem or oily skin attains more clarity and acne scarring is reduced. Best of all, this gentle abrasive technique is the ideal solution for people with sensitive skin that reacts to makeup or chemicals such as Retin-A and glycolics.
Are there any pretreatment instructions I need to be aware of?
Yes. You should avoid aspirin, ibuprofen-type products (Advil, Aleve, Motrin), St. John's Wort, and high doses of vitamin E (anything above doses contained in a multivitamin) for 7 days prior to your treatment. These products increase the risk of bleeding or bruising at the injection sites. If you develop an active cold sore near the area to be treated, you will need to reschedule your appointment to a later date, after the cold sore is completely resolved. If you are prone to these, be sure to mention it to Dr. Swan when you have your treatment.
Are there any side effects with sclerotherapy?
Yes, but they are usually quite minor and include bruising, some brownish discoloration at sites of injection, tiny sores at sites of injection, temporary lumpiness due to coagulation of blood in larger vessels, and the development of tiny blood vessels at the injection sites. Most of these side effects resolve over time.
